Montego Bay Jamaica Weather
I get asked all the time about Montego Bay Jamaica weather. With Montego Bay being one of Jamaica’s top resort destinations, it is not uncommon for visitors to enquire about the weather. In fact, almost every time I converse with a visitor to the island, the conversation never ends without a question about the weather.
So what is the weather like in Montego Bay, Jamaica?
Let’s start with the island of Jamaica in general. Jamaica experiences a tropical marine climate which makes the island’s weather warm and wet all year round. The wettest months of the years are May, June, November, December and January; whereas July and August are the hottest. The major variations in weather happen whenever the island experiences a cold front or is threatened by a hurricane or tropical storm.
It’s now been almost five years since Jamaica has been seriously threatened by a hurricane but in general the island experiences a serious hurricane threat almost every two years. Currently, it has been close to ten years since Jamaica has been hit by a hurricane. This is largely due in part to the Blue Mountains which often block hurricanes from making a direct hit of the island.
Jamaica’s temperature averages between 27-32°C or 80-90°F. Major variations exist in areas of high elevation such as the Blue Mountains, where temperatures averages around 6°C or 43°F.
Here is a breakdown of meteorological conditions affecting Montego Bay Jamaica weather:

Rainfall: Montego Bay, like the rest of Jamaica experiences frequent rainfalls. One way to tell if or how it’s going to rain in Montego Bay is to pay close attention to the daily cloud cover. If cloud cover looks like the nimbostratus clouds shown in picture; that means that you should certainly carry a large umbrella with you for your outing in Montego Bay, as a rainfall episode should be imminent.
Temperature: Montego Bay’s temperature is almost constant at 32°C or 90°F. There are a few times when the island is affected by a cold front which will cause the temperature to fall by about 8-10°. Of course if you are visiting from a country where there is a winter season, this drop in temperature will still be warm to you, so there’s really no need for a sweater. On the other hand, if you are headed to Negril and there’s a cold front- I would advise you to take a coat! OK, that’s an exaggeration; but by all means carry a sweater as I have experienced winter and I can tell you that a cold front in Negril feels real coooold.
Wind: Montego Bay Jamaica weather experiences a predominant light breeze that is sometimes dry and sometimes humid.
Sunshine: You can expect bright sunshine and clear blue skies almost on a daily basis in Montego Bay.
